Fun Things to Do in Gilbert, AZ, from Gilbert Plumbers Who Care
As a business providing plumber Gilbert services and plumbing throughout the East Valley, we’ve grown to love Gilbert. Gilbert is actually the country’s largest national town. Its small-city feel makes the community unique, and Gilbert also boasts some of the tastiest food and coolest things to do in the Valley. From locally-inspired cuisine to local music, theater and goat yoga (yes, goat yoga), you’ll never run out of ways to explore Gilbert. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Gilbert.
Cheers to Local Gilbert Beers
Gilbert is a beer lovers’ paradise. Walk into any Gilbert restaurant, and you’ll probably find some Arizona brews on draft. Plus, Gilbert is home to standalone breweries, like 12 West Brewing Co., Arizona Wilderness, Flying Basset Brewing and The Perch Brewery. Some of our favorite places serving Arizona beers include Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, Grubstak, and The Whining Pig. Were you able to try one out? Let us know what you thought on our Facebook page.
Up Your Yoga Game with Goats
Goats make everything better, including yoga in Gilbert. Arizona Goat Yoga is one of the coolest ways to increase your flexibility, and sometimes even alpacas make an appearance. As you move through poses, fancy goats might join you on your back or nuzzle you into a meditative state. All levels are welcome, so even if you haven’t mastered downward facing dog yet, a cute goat can provide some encouragement.
Homemade Is Where the Heart Is
Gilbert is a makers’ paradise. Just visit Barnone, an awesome space that is home to a dozen craftspeople who produce handmade products. You can check out makers like:
- Lettercraft, which creates laser-cut wood gifts and wood-burned decor
- Everybody Loves Flowers, which produces gorgeous floral arrangements
- Prickly Pear Paper, which creates handmade paper goods
- Johnston Machine Co., which designs and tests new cooking tools
If you get hungry or thirsty checking out all the neat handmade items, Barnone also features handmade food and drinks. You can stop by Fire & Brimstone for wood-fired pizzas or Garage – East for fermented fruit drinks (yes, like wine.)
Get Your Art On
You can see even more handcrafted goodness at various art fairs throughout Gilbert. The Gilbert Art Walk happens every October through March and is a pet-friendly art show with live music. Artists stop by to sell art like paintings, ceramics, woodworking, jewelry, photography and more.
You can also visit Art Intersection in Gilbert to check out the gallery and art events, lectures and workshops all focused on art. This space is the perfect place to unleash your inner artist.
Take a Trip to a Farm
Gilbert is unique in the Valley because it is home to several urban farms. Some of our favorites include:
- Mother Nature’s Farm: You can take hay rides with the family, visit farm animals like pigs and turtles, or head to the farm for pumpkins in October or a tree for the Christmas holidays.
- The Farm at Agritopia: This farm is nearly 100 years old and features some of the best-tasting local produce around. You can take a tour of the farm or stock up on farm-fresh goodies.
You can also taste straight-from-the-farm foods at the Gilbert Farmers Market. The market happens every Saturday and welcomes up to 100 vendors who bring farm foods, plus arts and crafts, plants and more.
Get Close to Nature
Gilbert is home to a variety of natural species that make the desert ecosystem so vibrant. One of the best places to see lots of wildlife in action is at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. There are more than 200 species of birds there, plus fish like rainbow trout, largemouth bass, sunfish and farm-raised channel catfish. There are also other animals like rabbits, snakes, insects, turtles, and ducks that call this nature sanctuary home. Meander at your own pace, bring the family down for an urban fishing trip or wonder at all the different types of birds you’ll see throughout the park.
Did We Mention the Food?
Being close to farms, there are always local ingredients on Gilbert restaurant menus. Forget chains in Gilbert. Stop by a locally-owned joint for really great Gilbert eats. Some of our top choices are:
- Joe’s Real BBQ: Slow-cooked barbecue over pecan wood has our mouths watering every time.
- Joyride Taco House: The tacos are so good, you’ll head back time and again to try them all. Don’t forget the margaritas!
- Clever Koi: If you love any type of Asian food, you can’t go wrong here. Try flavors from Thailand, Korea and more.
These are just a few of our go-to spots, but the foodie possibilities are truly endless in Gilbert. There’s also the Gilbert Festival food truck festival every Friday night. Take our advice: wear stretchy pants when you go for a meal in Gilbert.
