Why do I not Have Cold Water Coming from my shower or bath?

Most of the time, when we get a call from a customer regarding water temperature, it’s because their hot water is out, not cold.

The flip side of this is when we get calls because a customer’s cold water is not working. The problem is more common than you think, and if you’re reading this, we’re willing to bet you’re experiencing this very issue.

Cold showers are a nuisance – an overly hot shower can be downright dangerous. Rather than risking potential burns from your scalding hot shower, read on and give our Mesa Plumbers a call! We can get your shower or bath temperature corrected in no time!

What in the World Is Going On?

When it comes to a shower that’s too hot, it can be more than a little frustrating. So what’s going on?

The most common culprit is a defective pressure-balancing valve. Your pressure-balancing valve, generally located in the faucet of the shower or bath, regulates the pressure and ratio of cold and hot water. It mixes the water coming from the cold and hot water lines, allowing you to get the water temp you want.

As a mechanical component, this balancing valve can and will wear down over time. Given the fact it is constantly exposed to water, corrosion is likely to occur.

How Can I Fix This?

We’ve seen this plumbing project tackled by homeowners many times. Sometimes with success, often with an emergency plumbing call to our team. We don’t recommend taking this project on alone.
